GGSIO Awards “Good Governance Award” to the Governor of Kabul

Kabul, Afghanistan | June 25, 2020

On Thursday, June 25, 2020, the Good Governance Studies Institute–Organization (GGSIO) formally presented the Good Governance Award to Mr. Mohammad Yaqoob Haidari, Governor of Kabul, during a ceremony held at Darul Aman Palace. The event was attended by representatives of various social, cultural, and civil society organizations, as well as members of GGSIO’s Board of Directors.

The award was granted following an institutional assessment of governance performance during Mr. Haidari’s tenure as Governor of Kabul Province and as Chair of the Provincial Emergency Committee for COVID-19 Response.

The evaluation was based on several key governance indicators, including:

  • Demonstrated transparency and accountability
  • Strengthened cooperation with civil society
  • Responsiveness to citizens’ needs and public service delivery challenges
  • Institutional leadership and administrative authority
  • Enhanced coordination among capital-based government institutions

These criteria formed the basis upon which Mr. Haidari was recognized as deserving of the Good Governance Award.

During the ceremony, Mr. Ahmad Etemadi, Executive Director of GGSIO, encouraged the Governor to continue expanding reform-oriented efforts aimed at strengthening governance standards and institutional effectiveness within Kabul Province.

In his remarks, Governor Haidari expressed appreciation for the recognition and emphasized that independent monitoring and evaluation by research institutions, civil society organizations, and citizens are essential to promoting transparency, accountability, participatory decision-making, and improved governance practices. He further highlighted the importance of administrative digitalization as a critical step toward institutional reform and the realization of good governance principles.

The Good Governance Award is an institutional recognition presented by GGSIO to governors, public officials, and government entities that demonstrate measurable commitment to governance excellence. The initiative aims to promote accountability, encourage reform-oriented leadership, and institutionalize a culture of performance-based public service.
